At lave en skjorte kage/ Making a shirt cake

Yesterday we surprised one of my younger brothers with a little birthday party. I got  the cake assignment. He likes Red Velvet cake, so that was what I was going to bake for him. But the look ofthe cake was difficult to decide. At last my end decisions was to make a popcorn cake, or so I thought until two day before the birthday party. While browsing on the net, I got inspired by shirt cakes and thought that it would be fun to make a shirt cake for him as we were also giving him a shirt for birthday present. That always happens to me, change of plans, in last minuts :)

Red Velvet and fondant.
For the Red velvet cake used recepie from Joy of baking http://www.joyofbaking.com/RedVelvetCake.html  I dobbeled the recepie but used more buttermilk then it says in the recepie, about 100 ml more. I baked the cake in my large oven pan.
For the fondant I ended up using 1500 gr in all, but I had coloured about 1700 gr fondant. Thats maybe why my arms are hurting today.

So this is my story about making a shirt cake or about how to make a shirt cake. I used " the present " to make templets.

I  roughly made a drawing on the templet to get an idea og how I wanted the shirt.

For kraven jeg brugte fondant tilsat tylose pulver. (1 tsk til ca 200 gr fondant. ).
For the shirt collor I used fondant added tylose powder. (1 tsp to 200 gr fondant).I f you dont know tyloseis adde to fondant to make the fondant dry harder.  I used the "plastic collar thing" from the real shirt to mould the collor, then I left it to dry 2 hours.

Brugte en tyl til at lave knapper.
Making buttons witha tip.

I used my templet to cut the cake in to shirt shape. Iced the cake with creme cheese frosting.

Jeg overtrak kagen med fondant.
Covered the cake with fondant.

Making the tie. The pocket and the tie has to be soft, so I made them last.

Min bror blev meget glad for begge sine "skjorter".
My brother liked both his shirts, enjoyed one a little bit more then the other. I hope you enjoyed my little story about making shirt cake.  Have a great Sunday.
